Are you arriving at a later date to your luggage? Do you have a job already? I mean if you havent confirmed with the above mentioned company check out www.luggageforward.com they arrange pickup from the address you are at to the address which you are going i.e. your new job. Reasonable prices usually. Ive used them before travelling to and from Niseko for seasons.

Yeah I've looked into this company before and there a fair bit more expensive however as you mentioned they will delivery to your door...

I guess I'm pretty keen on using Jetta excess baggage purely on price and there just down the road from me, have you ever just sent direct to the airport? Or cargo terminal?
Ando (2013-09-04 19:58:09)
Mmm cant say ive personally heard of people sending luggage unaccompanied to the airport and leaving it there for a later pickup.. i guess it depends on varying factors, like when you are actually arriving and which airline company this Jetta excess baggage uses.. i would find out which company or companies they use for their business to transport excess luggage and contact them.. i assume it would be with a commercial company like JAL or Qantas or something.. maybe.. for it to be a cheap rate..

I assume you read Jetta's storage info for Japan is only 24 hours holding? if you are arriving within this time id just go with it judging from the sites information
Ando (2013-09-04 20:11:04)
*free storage holding i mean, not holding in general.. but latter prices may be steep
Jmckeown (2013-09-04 20:18:41)
Fair question ill call tomorrow...let ya know how it pans out and thanks for all your help!
Ando (2013-09-04 20:20:57)
no worries
did read lower in the storage section that 24hours is the longest japan will hold unaccompanied luggage free or not.. well according to Jetta at least

Yamato transport (kuronekoyamato.co.jp) do takkyubin (Ta-Q-Bin) which is luggage transfer from airport to your door or visa-versa. Cost about $25 a bag to go from Niseko to Osaka so from Chitose to Niseko should be much cheaper.

They held my luggage in Osaka for two weeks, I sent it from Niseko then went travelling, picked it up at Kansai a couple of hours before my flight home.

Not sure if it'll suit your needs but have a look, might be able to get the two services to work together.

Hey Danpower,

Unfortunately unaccompanied luggage cannot be collected by Yamato transport you have to physically drop it at there counter, which I cannot do.

Looked into a company called world baggage in Australia and they do door to door pretty cheap.
DanPower (2013-09-05 15:44:26)
Ahh that's a pain, I've only ever used them for domestic takkyubin.

I'm looking to move some stuff myself and my container option seems to have fallen through so I might look into world baggage myself. If you find anything better keep us posted :)

Cheers

Wow just did a quote for a 40kg bag from my house to chitose, insured for $500..... $412 to ship!
Jmckeown (2013-09-05 18:37:12)
Good or bad? Haha
DanPower (2013-09-06 01:17:35)
Bad.. if the stuff in the bag is worth $500 then I might as well just buy new stuff!

I use luggageforward.com to ship our snowboards & gear to Hirafu from Brisbane for the past 4 seasons they pick up from your door and deliver to your other door - or where ever you want it to go. They're probably a bit more expensive than others but is shipped via courier and the service is great. You just tell them when you want it to be there.
