We are sad to report that seven skiers, four men and three women, lost their lives yesterday when they were caught up in a massive avalanche in Toyama Prefecture. The avalanche, which was estimated to be 30 meters wide and 600 meters long and was visible from over 3 kilometers away, occurred in an area where slides are uncommon and came after a meter of fresh snow had been deposited on top of an existing 1-meter-thick base.
