A FREE shakuhachi (bamboo flute) recital and introductory lesson event is to be staged at Kutchan’s newest restaurant/bar and gallery, SEKKA lab in the main street of Kutchan Town (Station Street). Mr Seizan Nakajima is a master of the Shakuhachi and began playing professionally in 1968, his recitals gain much acclaim, with people coming from wide and far to hear him play. We are fortunate to have him coming to the Niseko area for 2 very special performances and basic workshops (for those interested). Currently, Mr Nakajima is working closely with Sapporo City on a program to promote traditional Japanese arts in Hokkaido and as part of this program, he would also like to introduce the Shakuhachi to the locals and international visitors in Niseko. About SEKKA lab SEKKA lab is the latest project by Shouya Grigg, the founder and creator of SEKKA style. The project consists of a restaurant, cafe and bar in a rustic yet modern Japanese style. SEKKA lab opens on the 29th Dec 2016 Sekka Style’s Art Director Mr Shouya Grigg is proud to announce the opening of SEKKA lab. SEKKA lab. is the realisation of a dream many years that has been many years in the making by Shouya Grigg a long-time resident and lover of the Niseko area. SEKKA lab. consists of a Cafe, Restaurant, Bar and Gallery, it has been designed as a place where people can come for a casual lunch or for a well-earned break and coffee during the day and in the evenings it transforms into a moody and intimate dining space. SEKKA lab. also, features an art gallery and shop corner for those who are interested in local arts and products. Dinner consists, of "course dinners" or "a la carte menu", all menu's feature a variety of local Hokkaido and Niseko produce. Chef Kobayashi comes from an Italian cooking background and is excited to be in Niseko and getting close to local produce. The interior features a two-story high wine cellar and a sommelier is on hand to make selecting wines to match your meal a reality.
