The Hokkaido Ski Promotion Board, the one unified promotion organisation for Hokkaido, has been disbanded due to Kamori Kanko(operators of Rusutsu, Teine etc)withdrawl of support. This leaves each resort to fend for themselves.. Leading to the question, what does the Niseko Promotion Board, the NPB, do for Hirafu? Do they represent Hirafu as a whole or are they representing the Grand Hirafu Resort??

Never heard of "Hokkaido Ski Promotion Board" but quasi-official organisations targeting foreign tourists and requiring the cooperation of foreign-owned businesses seem almost destined to fail. Unnecessary Japanese bureacracy, with an undercurrent of cultural misunderstanding, seem to be the culprits my colleagues blame most often. Japanese corporations dislike upstart foreigners telling them how to manage, market, and promote their resorts, but are terrible at reaching for the lucrative foreign market themselves.

As far as I can tell, the NPB is doing a bang up job, I reckon it is hard to balance the demands of all of the members, but as far as I know it is the only entity that exists that promotes the resort as a whole to the international market.

I mean, there's the Niseko Kanko Kyokai, which seems to do OK with the domestic market, but they're not exactly breaking new ground with their English site.

Well the Japanese government has a new tourism agency (http://whiteheaven.jp/japanese-government-upgrades-tourism-agency/) so hopefully they'll take the reins.

Never heard of the Hokkaido Ski Promotion Board and I'm pretty sure they've done little to encourage the recent ski boom. Apparently the government's Yokoso! campaigns, etc have made a significant impact on numbers arriving from Asia.
