Hi all, We are very excited about comming to niseko to have a powder experience in Feb and trying to work out how much yen to bring. I have heard cash is king and credit card facilities and eftpos are few and far between. Can anyone help with some advice ? Cheers

Cash is definitely king. You can use a credit card in some places, but many small stores and restaurants are loathe to accept the things, many are getting hit with a 5% surcharge on those transactions.

I'm pretty sure both of Hirafu's cash machines don't accept foreign cards (although I haven't tried Lawson... anyone?) The post office in Kutchan has a bank machine that generally does work with Visa et al, but I would prepare cash enough up front and only rely on that as a last resort (somtimes people's cards don't work there).

To better answer your question a little more info please:
[ul][li]How many people in your family?[/li][li]What area are you planning to stay in?[/li][li]Are your passes, ski rental, etc already paid for?[/li][li]Planning to do any shopping?[/li][li]How long is your stay?[/li][li]Planning to dine out daily? Fine dining? Soup curry or pizza will do?[/li][/ul]

Thanks for replying, sorry I didnt give much info. We are a couple and everything is pre-paid except food and drink. We are big fans of japanese food and would like to explore traditional resturants etc.

Allow at least 10,000yen per day for 3 meals and evening bar hopping per person. Although you could do that just on dinner!! ( I do eat allot though ):P

Look for all you can eat and drink places, get so full you dont need brekky the next day.

What about without the bar hopping ?
