Unsolicited Feedback Volume 2: Crabs in a Barrel The size of the resort, a pie that is no longer growing like it used to, and the proximity of all these similar companies in such a small village, make many transactions a zero-sum game. Real estate, accommodation, rafting, you name it, somebody's competing with you for those yen. This makes things a bit cliquish, am I right? I admit it, I've been guilty of this myself. I've had some friends who, through my actions or theirs, became competitors. That puts a strain on any friendship, which is regrettable. Competition leads to putting distance between each other, which is hard in a village with only several hundred people! Healthy competition is good though, can't argue with that. The guests and investors benefit from it, just not sure how much us locals do. I will say this: I love originality. Big ideas and new ideas. If you have the opportunity to create something, go for it man! Good for you. Good for the resort. And if it succeeds... people will be riding YOUR coattails ;) guaranteed.
