Hi guys, looking for people looking to share a house in Hirafu this season. My dates are December 10 - March 5, wondering if anyone is also looking for accom around the same times - our bargaining power would be greatly increased if we have a few people collaborating to lock in a rental house!

Hey,
Im looking for somewhere to live for the season- have been trying to get myself a job organised with accom included but no luck yet. The plan is still to go no matter what!! and try to find work when i arrive, which will probably have to be a bit earlier so all the jobs aren't already taken. But finding somewhere to live is supposedly the hardest part so im thinking that would be the first thing i should try and organise!

Hey TAN,
From experience, the accommodation in Niseko is definitely the hardest part.
It's easy enough to lock in a couple of lodges:
Aspara and Owashii come to mind. But these even add up, despite sharing your room with 2-6 other people. If you want your own room, and to be in the centre of the action (Hirafu) then you'll have to get on it! I sorted out only the first month when I came last year, and thought I'd be fine to see what was out there..I was wrong! Late January cost me a fortune, until I found a lodge for Feb / March.

What kind of work are you looking at?

Anyway, when it comes to renting a house in Niseko (or Japan for that matter), it's not just the monthly rent+security bond for the tennant to worry about...There's 'key money' (like a 1 month penalty for short term rental), snow clearing costs regardless whether you have a car or not, utilities, communal cleaning (think body corp) among others.

Even said, it can still work out cheaper and much more comfortable to share a house than a bed in a lodge.
